Event Description

STABLEY OUTDOORS & MYOUTDOORZONE.COM will be joining forces to send care packages to our soldiers who are serving in Afghanistan. With the help of Outdoor Industry Leaders and Men & Women who share a Passion for the Outdoors, we will be sending our troops Game Calls, DVD'S, Hats, T-Shirts, Magazines and other items to help make them more comfortable & pass the time when they are not on duty.

Most of us can't imagine the mental and physical conditions they go through. By providing these items, we hope to lift their spirits and let them know how appreciated they are.

If you are interested in helping with "Project Afghanistan Hunt Club", please contact John Stabley or Paul Biggs at the following.

Hello everyone,

I just wanted to thank all of you for your support. I am a new hunter and really got into hunting when SFC Morter started our "hunt club" Tuesday nights. Unfortunatly I haven't been able to hunt this year, but I am going to this next year. I plan to use some of the gifts you sent over.

Thank you again for your support!

Hello all,
Sorry it has been a while since I have been on. I was reassigned as the US represenative and Supervisor over the International Military Police in ISAF HQ, Kabul (Afghanistan). I am the only American serving over Italian, Dutch, and Romanian Military Police Soldiers. Quite interesting and hopefully a good way to end my tour of duty here in Afghanistan. It took me a couple of weeks to make the move, but I am almost all settled in. The good news is that I think I have influenced one of the Dutch forces into our sport. After speaking to him about hunting back in the USA and lending him a couple hunting videos he has shown some major interst (they do not have a big addiction to sport hunting in Holland). After demonstrating my elk call he has now ordered online a Elk diaphram (mouth piece) for himself.
My next goal is the Italians.

Hello everyone,
A quick note, I have just returned to Afghanistan, I was back home in Wisconsin for a very quick two week R&R. I got the chance to do a turkey hunt with my kids (the weather was not the most cooperative as it snowed and rained almost every day), and all though we were unsuccessful in harvesting a Tom it was still a great 5 days spent in the woods with my kids watching hens and other wild life. I also was able to take the kids fishing a couple times (the bite was on for crappies); we went out for walleye one evening and also caught some bass. It was over way to quick, but at least now that I am back here that means I am that much closer to being done with this tour and coming home. Once again thank you to everyone for their support, and M2D the hats were awesome!

Respectfully,
SSG Christopher Morter

Hey People we have a Member here ROBERT ELLIOT who has a nephew SGT Trevor Elliot who is serving in Afghanistan 3rd tour and has been there for a while. I just found this out and sent him and his buddies who are all hunters and fishermen a small care package. I am sure he would appreciate anything this group could scrounge up to help them along also.

Fishing in Afghanistan. Now it is just rain water but it shore is handy!

Hello,
I just wanted to share a posting; both I and SGT White (Tim) went out this morning at dawn to try to call in a few Jackals for your/ our entertainment. Our first stand was semi successful!!!! Due to wind and terrain I placed SGT White in front of me (approx 60 yards) and tried sucking in some Jackals through a little draw with a coaxer and distress call (figuring they would look past him to find me and he could catch them on video). Well, after we set up the wind changed its direction on us twice, within about two minutes of calling I had a Jackal come in behind us and sit (of course Tim was facing forward and did not catch it on video). After another forty seconds I had a Jackal come full thrust over the birm right at me (from the east while Tim was facing South), it got about 25–30ft from me and I had to yell for Tim to get him to face me. As soon as I yelled for Tim he swung towards me just in time to see the Jackal spin and start sprinting off. At the same time I noticed yet another Jackal less than 5 feet in front of and below Tim (out of his view) which also spun around and crawled through a hole in the fence at about mach 10 speed). So within 10 minutes of our first stand we successfully called in 3 Jackals (one close enough that I thought I was going to have to defend myself …lol), and none of it on video. It made for a good laugh though. So we picked up and relocated to another stand, this time I placed Tim next to me. I once again started with the coaxer and moved to the rabbit distress and within 2 minutes we had our first Jackal respond. He came in hot and stopped about 75 yards from our location where he decided to hang up and try to pick out our location. After about 30 or so seconds he winded us and took off (mission was a success though as we caught it on camera this time). We ended up getting surprised 1 more time by another Jackal which we did not catch on film. All in all it was a good morning, 2 stands and 5 Jackals, the biggest problem we encountered was being that we are located in a bowl surrounded by mountains and the wind direction tends to swirl, which cost us a couple of cool encounters from getting filmed. We are going out again in a couple days to try for another encounter and then we will down load the disk and try to attach it to this website. I have one more comment to make, the “Stedi- Stock” from “Own The Zone” member Harold Hurst, FANTASTIC!!!!!!! SGT White had absolutely no problems staying steady or staying on target because of this device, I highly recommend it for your video camera encounters. It fits snug against your shoulder like a rifle butt offering excellent stability (especially with the forward grip to draw it tight). SSG Chris Morter

Packages were mailed from Wisconsin late last week to the 3 soldiers on here.
There was a extra special treat added to each box by my daughter Breanna.
There will be enough to share with several people if you like.
