HEN WING CALL

The most reliable way to get a gobbler's attention in the early morning is to call him with a hen turkey wing. I use a hen wing because a gobbler wing is too stiff and large to produce the right sound. I flap that wing so it hits a few bushes and some leaves on the ground. This sounds like a hen that's just flown or walked into the area and begun to flap her wings, in the same way you stretch your arms in the morning.

Eight out of ten times, this flapping call will get a response from the gobbler. He'll either gobble or fly down. Then I use a series of soft yelps. Once you begin to think like turkeys, you can begin to understand their calls, and you're better able to communicate with them

I even use newspaper, cut a bunch of newspapers about 4"W x 6"L then I'll use heavy-duty paper clips, clip on one end of the 6"L and tape over the clips for a good strong hold, I used some camo duct tape. When I'm in the woods, I'll smack the newspaper against my leg, ground & bushes. Works great!
Will Primos knew what he was doing when he patented the "Real Wing". It is a realistic, simple, and deadly call. I take mine with me whenever I plan to get close to a roost!
I save all the Wings from every Turkey that I and every Turkey Hunter that I hunt with doesn't want. I use the Three Bones to make Wingbone Calls and use the Tip of the WIng with the feathers on it to make a Wing Call out of. Once it is cut off. I clean as much meat as possible off of the Bones. I then pin it on a piece of cardboard and apply 20 Mule Team Borax to the exposed bones and reamaining meat. You may have to apply more as the bones dry out. Once the Bones are dry, I get some bondo from the local auto parts store, make a mold with a ring that I cut out of a 2 liter Coke Bottle. You can do this by cutting out a ring from the bottle, bend the plastic to form a mold. You can cut out notches in the ring so that it fits properly. Once you have the mold cut to fit and secured to the cardboard (you may want to place a piece of wax paper or parchment between the cardboard and the wing call). Apply the bondo to the Wing Call insuring that all the air bubbles are out of it. Fill the mold to surrround the base of the Wing Call and then allow it to dry. Once it is dry you can file and or sand the bondo to fit your hand. Hope this helps.
