This is my first season of hunting in an area that I am unfamiliar with as far as where the turkeys are going to be.  I tried scouting some spots this morning were I thought the turkeys would be hanging around at but didnt have any luck with getting any birds to talk back.  Does anone have advice on where to start or is it all a guessing game?  Thanks for any and all replies that will help.

I always like to look at a map of the area and find high spots with good roost trees or creek/river bottoms with good trees. Usually you will find signs of the birds in these areas or there might just not be birds around? Its kind of thick in GA where I live and these birds can be funny and sneaky. I have had birds roost in planted pines only 15 to 20 ft.tall and sneak in to a call through a thicket. Its all fun! Another thing look for any mud holes or wet spots I think they like to look at there own tracks because they almost always step in the mud even if they could go around it. Let me know how it all turns out ? Good luck this season.
